Week 4
A few cm of soil has been scraped off the ca. 1500 m2 area that is to be a flowering meadow. After this, 175 m3 of sand has been spread out on the surface and the whole area subsoiled.
So much sand is necessary because the soil here contains quite a lot of clay and silt and, for a flowering meadow to develop well, the soil should be as nutrient-poor as possible. Subsoiling is necessary because the soil has been compacted by the weight of heavy machines working in the area.
