Not least the latter is a cardinal point, and just as zoos with their breeding work try to prevent the extinction of animal species, botanical gardens can, through research and forward-looking propagation of plant species, help ensure that our descendants can enjoy seeing as diverse a flora as possible.

The lip planting towards Understedvej, consisting of Bangsbo pine planted by students from Bangsbostrand school in 1992, are the last descendants of the pine species that grew in parts of Denmark after the last ice age, including on Læsø, but also in the southern part of Sweden. The mother plants for our Bangsbo pines are the trees on Læsø, and it is in collaboration with the Arboretum in Hørsholm that the plants have been placed here with us.

The northernmost part of the area is designed as a transition area from the Rose Garden, while the rest is divided into beds. Here a selection of the species that grow in Danish nature is shown. The plants and herbs are grown as monocultures, as it is practically an almost impossible task to create and maintain the biotopes in which they grow naturally.

The beds are divided into wild edible plants, wild poisonous plants, wild bee and butterfly plants, color plants, old witch herbs, snapdragons and fragrant plants. These are plants that have undergone a long-term selection process, ensuring that they are the best within the species with regard to a wide range of characteristics that make them particularly suitable for growing in Denmark. These plants have been selected in close collaboration with former research leader at the Danish Agricultural Research Institute, Poul Erik Brander.

In the middle of the area, there is a pavilion measuring approximately 30 m2.
