Botanical Plants Peony beds

To add an additional attraction to the Garden in the form of a larger plant collection, a section reserved for peonies has been established. The 10 beds are laid out in different sizes with a total area of approximately 150 m2. Old granite curbstones in various designs have been used as edges on the beds.

Tree peonies, silk peonies, country roses and some of the relatively new Itoh hybrids have been planted here. The Itoh hybrids were bred by the Japanese gardener Toichi Itoh in 1948.
They are crosses between tree peonies and perennial peonies, and they are distinguished by having large flowers that sit above the foliage and are long-flowering and hardy. The large variety of species and varieties ensures a long flowering period during the summer period, to the delight of the Garden's visitors.

Between the peonies, spherical yews have been planted, so that there is something green in the beds even in winter. 10 climbing plant stands have been set up between the peonies, and autumn-flowering Clematis has been planted in the stands.
