Forest floor beds
In the southwest of the area, 5 forest floor beds have been established, all of which are shaded by the tall beech trees that surround the entire area. This creates ideal conditions for forest floor plants from a large part of the world, and it has therefore been chosen to divide the beds into world regions. The beds are built up with edges of clumps and trunks, all of which come from the area.
The bottom of the beds is provided with a good drainage layer, which prevents standing water in winter, which some plants do not like. The growing medium generally used is sphagnum, sand and forest soil – there are plenty of leaves. To prevent excessive evaporation in summer, all beds are covered with a thick layer of mulch.
