Botanical Plants The lawn

Surrounded by a hedge of blood beech, a selection of ornamental grasses of all sizes has been planted here. There is great variation within the different grass genera, which is why many different species and varieties of the same genus have been planted.

Here are Miscanthus – elephant grass, Panicum – perennial millet, Carex – star, Luzula – sedge, Molinia – pipe grass and Festuca – bear grass.

To create more color variation and life in the summer months, butterfly-attracting perennials have been planted between the grasses. These include Monarda – horse mint, Gillenia – butterfly flower, Thymus – thyme, Echinacea – coneflower, and of course Buddleia – butterfly bush has also found a place in the bed.

The combination of ornamental grasses and perennials provides a very long flowering period, starting with the perennials, which bloom from early summer, and ending with the ornamental grasses, which retain their flower spikes throughout the winter.

The lawn is established on the existing soil mixed with sand, and a layer of broken rocks is laid out on top to keep the worst weeds away.
Various large stones found in the area have been placed in the bed – most of them in connection with the establishment of the garden, and the large dark gray stone in the bed furthest to the west is a so-called guide block of larvikite – it weighs 11 tons.
