Botanical Plants
Primrose bed
Some of the first harbingers of spring in the Garden, namely Primula, have now been given a whole bed to themselves in the Botanical Gardens area, namely under the rowan trees by the western main path. It will be exciting to see whether the better conditions in terms of humidity produce better plants.
Cow driver (Primrose) is a genus of about 550 species, distributed in Europe, Asia and North America, with a focus on East Asia. They are perennial, or rarely annual, herbaceous plants.
Here in Denmark there are 4 wild growing species:
Flat-collared Cowgirl (Primula elatior) is fairly common on the islands and in East Jutland. The Hollow-necked Cowbird (Primrose veris) is common except in Central and West Jutland. The mealybug (Primula farinosa) is only found in North Zealand and Bornholm – very rare and in decline. Large-flowered Cowslip (Primrose vulgaris) is fairly common in parts of Jutland and the islands.
