Medical Plant Garden

Park facilities Medical Plant Garden

The medical plant garden in Bangsbo is located next to one of Denmark's oldest barns, which dates back to around 1580.

Here you will find a wide selection of herbs that contain one or more active substances that were used with greater or lesser success in both folk medicine and monasteries to alleviate or cure illness. Some of the herbs are still used today to make medicines.

Many of the herbs were introduced from the south to their monastery gardens by monks in the Middle Ages, and there are also Danish native herbs here. Signs have been placed next to the various herbs, briefly explaining their uses.

Be aware that several of the herbs are poisonous.

We ask the public to refrain from removing seeds and plants from the garden, and dogs must be kept on a leash.
