Botanical Plants
Heath area
Here, on the flattest and sunniest area of the botanical garden, an area for heathland plants was created in the spring of 2014. There are countless different varieties of heather here, which appear at different times of the year in selected colors, both in terms of foliage and flowers. A heather with the variety name 'Jysk Naturform' has also been planted in the bed. It is a variety that was found and selected on a Jutland heathland in 1996, in order to preserve a representative of the typical Danish heathland. Red clover, juniper, lingonberry and mealybug are planted in between, providing variation in the bed.
Stands in the form of different species and varieties of birch have been planted. The soil has been improved for the benefit of the heathland plants by spreading a thick layer of sphagnum on top of the soil, which has subsequently been milled down. The entire area is then covered with mulch.
You are welcome to use the paths in the area and get closer to the various plants. The paths are partly marked with tree trunks, which, like all other trunks in the entire area, are recycled from the logging of the forest edges that surround the area.
