Experiences Insects

The Botanical Garden has taken many initiatives to promote insect life - lakes, canals and the moat are some of the places where there are really good opportunities to see insects - especially dragonflies and water nymphs.

In the Grass Garden, there are interplanted plants that provide plenty of nectar for bumblebees and butterflies, so in the height of summer there is life and happy days in this area.

Another good initiative for insects is located at the top of the Botanical Gardens area. Here, Frederikshavn Municipality's Mini Rangers, in collaboration with nature guide Bo Storm, have created an insect hotel consisting of a "fence" with cut branches. This provides good hiding places and overwintering opportunities for the insects.

In the area of Denmark's Wild Plants, a 1200 m2 flower field has been established in the southernmost part, where a selection of Danish flora has been sown with the specific aim of providing good living conditions for insects. In addition, special beds with wild Danish plants have been established, which experience has shown are visited by many different insects.
